Vulnerable Sector Checks for Volunteers

posted Sep 25, 2018, 6:49 AM by St. Michael ‎(Corkery)‎ School

Beginning this month, volunteers working with students in the OCSB must complete a vulnerable sector check. This includes parents and other volunteers taking part in field trips, those working with students in schools, and those volunteering at events where they may be in isolation with students even for a brief period of time (eg., meeting in a small area to distribute food/beverages). Please note that there are three types of Criminal Record Checks; Level 1: Criminal Record Check (CRC) Level 2: Criminal Record Check and Judicial Matters Check (CRJM) Level 3: Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) Anyone over 18 who wishes to take part in a volunteer opportunity in a school must complete a Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Check. There are two options for completing a vulnerable sector check: 1. In person – Details can be found here
2. Online – Details can be found here Please note we have letters at the office that will waive the fee for you so long as it is not a same day record check. Please contact the school if interested and we will send one home for you. We have been told that the quickest way to receive your vulnerable sector check is through the online application. Currently, it takes about two weeks to receive the completed check. Please give us a copy of your criminal record check once completed and we will create a database. Thank you for taking the time to have this completed as we will always need volunteers!

All OCSB Schools closed on Monday, September 24, 2018

posted Sep 23, 2018, 2:08 PM by St. Michael ‎(Corkery)‎ School

The Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) will close all schools and the Board office on Monday, September 24, 2018.

This decision was made in consultation with city emergency services due to extensive power outages and damage to several areas of the city. The safety of our students, families, and staff, is our top priority. School closures mean there is no before and after school care, child care centres are closed, and there is no community use of schools/extracurricular use of schools on Monday, September 24, 2018.

We continue to keep in our prayers the families and staff affected by Friday’s tornados, as well as all first responders. Please refer back to this ocsb.ca website or your school’s website on Monday, September 24, 2018 for an update regarding the next school day.
